Uncover the Grand Stages of Paris

Château de Versailles

Located in the city of Versailles, the Château de Versailles is an iconic symbol of French history and architecture. Originally built as a hunting lodge by Louis XIII in 1623, it was transformed and expanded by his son, Louis XIV, who moved the royal court to Versailles in 1682, making it the center of French political power until the French Revolution in 1789. The grand palace and its extensive gardens were designed by notable architects Louis Le Vau and Jules Hardouin-Mansart, with the famous gardens created by André Le Nôtre.

For the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Château de Versailles will host several equestrian events. A temporary outdoor arena will be set up on the Etoile Royale esplanade to the west of the Grand Canal, where it will stage dressage and jumping events for both the Olympics and Paralympics. The individual and team eventing cross-country sections will be held alongside the Grand Canal, while the five modern pentathlon events will also take place at this historic venue. This temporary transformation will allow the majestic grounds of Versailles to provide a stunning backdrop for the games, blending history with modern athleticism.
